Soooooo.....I've always had potentially unrealistic expectations of myself....my 18 year old self would probably say.....Good job...that's exactly what you were supposed to do...work hard and be a high achiever. :) Being nice to myself or stopping to appreciate or be proud of myself is never something I've done well.....unfortunately I think....ok, well, I should keep setting the bar higher and higher.
That is a great reflection. And I am sure many high achievers can relate. Setting the bar high (or higher) isn't the problem. Just make sure you take the time to appreciate all you have achieved before you set that next goal.
Mom and Dad's advice to "save money, live below your means" works; but remember to pay attention to all the people that help you in large and small ways. Giving you a ride to work at your first job. Enabling you to have a unique nursing clinical rotation in the ER. Teaching you, a marketer, all about clinical trial design. Helping you find a job after being laid off. Be one of those people whenever you can.
It's easy to focus on the money moves and forget the people who opened doors along the way. Being that person for someone else is incredibly rewarding. Keep being that person
